About
Walker Cody (b. Lexington, Ky) is a southern-based photographer and filmmaker whose work showcases the varying landscapes of America and explores the beauty and subsequent decline of wild places across his home country. His work often engages with the cultural complexities of Appalachia, focusing on the region's music, family dynamics, shifting identity, and environmental relations.
Primarily pursuing intimate stories told in real, often rural locations, the physical and emotional relationship that the camera demands between artist and subject is what keeps him engaged with the craft.
His passion for photography and filmmaking can be directly attributed to his parents, with whom he joined at a young age as they hiked and photographed national and state parks across the U.S. That passion continues to grow as he relies on the camera as a tool of memory, capturing and constructing scenes large and small, both in his backyard and abroad.
Walker holds a B.F.A. in Film & TV Production from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He currently lives in Georgia, where he serves as Photo Production Assistant in SCAD's Visual Media Department.
